Scouts at 24th Chelmsford

Thinking about joining?

Who are we?

Scouts are young people aged 10 1/2 to 14 who:

  • Master new skills and try new things
  • Have fun and go on adventures
  • Are curious about the world around them
  • Help others and make a difference, on their own doorstops and beyond

Week in and week out, they gather in a group called a Scout Troop to conquer the small task of changing the world.

We meet every Tuesday from 7:30pm to 9:30pm.

Badges at Scouts

The Scout section has over 50 Activity badges available to it’s members covering topics such as Mechanics, Street Sports, Survival Skills and DIY, with the possibility of gaining instructors awards for some of these. On top of all of these, there’s still challenge awards, partnership awards and of course the staged badges. With this number of badges, the Scouts will need to do some work at home if they plan to achieve even a small percentage of what’s available. It’s worth checking out what’s required for each badge and where it goes when it’s completed.

Scouts work towards their Chief Scout Gold – the highest award a Scout can achieve. By attending each session and doing their best, they’ll achieve this by the time they move on to Explorers.

Moving on

There’ll come a time when all to do in Scouts is done, and your young person is ready to move on to Explorers, where they’ll have the opportunity to try bigger challenges and continue their Scouting adventure.

This marks the end of your journey at 24th Chelmsford, but there are a dozen Explorer Scout units across Chelmsford, ready to offer further enriching and exciting experiences.

You also have the opportunity to become a Young Leader, where you help out weekly as a volunteer with a Beaver colony, Cub pack, or Scout troop – working towards your Young Leader Belt Buckle
